The location of the Sainte-Baume

A visit to the Sainte-Baume

The Baume is a sacred place as Saint Mary-Magdalene lived in its very cave. Soon a great number of pilgrimages took place, bringing a flow of penitents unknown and illustrious, longing to find through the intercession of the Saint, the life within God.

On the high plain of the Plan d’Aups, the hostelry of the Sainte-Baume is situated in a fabulous setting : the mountain of Sainte-Baume.The path will lead the wanderer through its illustrious forest, unique in Provence country. As he proceeds, not without effort, he will reach the cave and on his way back easily finds the crossing of the path that leads to the Saint Pilon.

Nature here is beautiful and praiseworthy, but the stroller shall not leave it at that. Once in the cave, he may abandon himself to Saint Mary-Magdalene amidst her beautiful statues. As he walks down the King’s Road he cannot but stop at the Guest-house and appreciate the beautiful Renaissance portal located at the entrance of the hostelry’s chapel with its frescoes.
